about

Jilk have just released an updated version of 'Welcome Lies' which features two bonus tracks and is only available direct from the band.

The two bonus tracks are available separately for those of us who already own this uniquely satisfying album. 'Welcome Lies' came to me through a recommendation from Lippy Kid and I honestly couldn't believe my luck. Over on Twitter, long time subscriber Peter said it was the CiS Subscription Library release he'd played the most. I can see why. There is an abundance of ideas and a real confidence displayed in the deft invention of the arrangements. It's thrilling stuff, beautifully put together.

__________________________________________
Jilk fuses a bewildering collage of home-found sounds with the ambient soundscapes of washy synths, insect-like clicks & cuts, and huge gorgeous waves of all-encompassing experimental noise. A Bristol based collective of musicians firmly rooted in many of the city’s alternative artistic scenes, Jilk have always strived through collaboration to be greater than the sum of their parts.

Welcome Lies marks the return of Jilk after a lengthy and considered writing process. The album comprises five long form songs that draw from contemporary electronica as much as they do from Canadian post-rock.

The long gestation can be heard in the layers of depth and detail that permeate the album. Neo-classical drones sit alongside jazz drum improvs, distorted broken electronics and lush hypnogogic layers of synths and orchestral bliss. Chopped and screwed vocals drift in and out of focus before being washed away in a sea of vibraphones, strings, guitars and armies of miniature robot percussionists.

This is Jilk at the height of their collective powers.

This release also marks the first print media Jilk have produced. The zine document, heavily inspired by the occult, horror and punk aesthetics, is exclusive to Castles In Space and is only available to Castles in Space Subscription Library members. Framing the five beautiful songs in a narrative of dark rituals and incantations, monstrous political ideologies and mass manipulation, the zine gives a sense of how the surprisingly intimate themes of each song were born out of troubled relationships with the outside world.
