about

From the release notes from The Concretism Archive: Volume 1:

"After asking several times over the last few years, Chris Sharp finally relented and gave access to his archive of early Concretism tracks for a release for the CiS Subscription Library. These tracks all date back from the pre-"Town Planning" era when Chris was using Soundcloud as his main means of distribution. None have never been released on vinyl or been compiled together as a collection before now...

"There may very well be a further Volume of tracks taken from Chris's archive. There's plenty more where this came from and there's still some really weird shit left in there which adds a whole other dimension to the Concretism story..."

It is time then, for the second look into Chris Sharp's darker past as we enjoy The Concretism Archive: Volume 2. Presented in complementary artwork to the first volume, again designed by Nick Taylor, this wonderfully eclectic collection has much to give.

The opening track, 'A Moment" is astonishingly good, although definitely an outlier from the archive. 'The Wiccan Circle' is as good as you think it's going to be. Nobody does this stuff better than Chris.

"The Rostock Operation" is drenched in that quesy, churning thing that he does. It's instantly recognisable as Concretism. And just listen to that string machine sample.

"World of Nature" is another demonstration of how well he nailed this sound so early on. It's interesting to note that in common with this one, several of these tracks shape shift into something else. Sometimes coming back, sometimes not. It's the early experimentation that makes these collections so essential.

"Automated Teller Machine" decays from a starting point of rattly, gnarly post punker to just a lone and unsettlingly repeated riff interspersed with robot creep.

Epic closer 'The Chimney of Littlebrook D Watches Over Me' is quite something. A kind of love song to the (demolished, of course) Littlebrook Power Station in Dartford, Kent. www.powerstations.uk/littlebrook-d-power-station-dartford-kent/ It's sounding incredibly current to me, this one. The gorgeous layered synths bringing some real emotion to the game.

It's really good to get a second volume of Chris's older tracks out there - his is such a strong body of work. It's been as difficult as last time compiling it, but I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. There's still some stuff left in the archive. Yet again, it's the slightly raw/weirder stuff... So in the unlikely event that anyone's interested in hearing that on a third volume, then please do let us know. *wink*

The vinyl for this is served on a very nice bright transparent green pressing at a secret weapon pressing plant I'm not going to tell you about. It's already started to ship and will continue to do so for the coming weeks. Please bear with us as we have a LOT coming for you in the immediate short term. i.e. now. Hold tight.

As ever, thanks for your support,

Colin
